Art Academics is the product of over a decade of teaching art. As a teacher, I learned so much from working with one of the most successful art schools in Orange County, and through all the wonderful experiences that come from teaching hundreds of students – many of them for several years. There came a point where my personal goals as a teacher exceeded what was possible in a large school and Art Academics was born.
The goal is to stay small, share the joy of art and always, always provide the highest quality one-on-one experience to students of all levels. Our smallness is made possible through partnerships with amazing, authentic and creative small businesses that allow us to be a traveling classroom. We could also never do without the assistance of long-time students and support of other teachers in the field. That is the “We” in Art Academics….and We love teaching art!
Valerie’s passion for teaching is rivaled only by her own creative work. Her work is mainly figurative oils. She also loves murals, using art for social causes and curating shows. She keeps her artistic life separate from her teaching life so she has the freedom to be better at both. She has been teaching art for over a decade at small schools as well as the Orange County Museum of Art. She recieved her BFA in Painting at CSUF and was a recipient of the Florence Millner Arnold Grant and the Joanne Blankenship Memorial Art Award. She was also named Best Visual Artist of 2014 by OC Weekly.
